Biography
Born in 2011 in Belgium (Heist-op-den-Berg), Hendrik began playing the cello at the age of 4 with Daan De Vos. At 10, he won the second prize in the Young Soloist Competition and was subsequently admitted to the Young Talent department of the Amsterdam Conservatory of Music, where he studied with Monique Heidema.
From 2023 until 2025, Hendrik was a private student of the inspiring Belgian cellist Paul Heyman, who guided him step by step on his artistic journey. In September 2024, he also joined the cello class of Professor Gustav Rivinius at the Maastricht Conservatory.
In recent years, Hendrik has performed at several festivals, including the Ocrum Music Festival in Breda, Averbode Klassiek, and the Festival Musicorum in Brussels. He also had the chance to play as a soloist with several orchestras like the Britten String Orchestra, conducted by Loes Visser, Arte Amanti Chamer Music Orchestra conducted by Reinilde Leyers, Herentals Symphonic Orchestra conducted by Carl Vervoort and Stringendo Orchestra conducted by Pascale Van Os.
Since 2021, Hendrik has won several first prizes at both national and international competitions, including the Britten Cello Competition in the Netherlands, the VLAMO Virtuoso Final, and the International Music Academy FORTE Competition. The jury of the Britten Cello Competition praised Hendrik as a remarkable cello talent, describing his playing as deeply expressive, with the ability to “make the cello sing, tell a story, and move the audience.”
Hendrik has also participated in masterclasses with prominent cellists, including Gregor Horsch, Olsi Leka, Aleksey Shadrin, Pierre Fontenelle and Stéphanie Huang.
Hendrik plays a modern Catalan cello from Guiseppe Teneriello (2007).
